Volunteers

Working in Ecovillages

Over the years, volunteers in ecovillages have helped maintain gardens, harvest, build (with strawbales, cob, you name it), set up alternative energy systems, run the kitchens, and countless other important activities. Volunteering is a good way to contribute to a good cause, and in some cases to work toward room and board (some ecovillages offer discounts on accommodations in return for work hours). Not all ecovillages are set up to receive volunteers, but here are some:

Grishino Ecovillage, Russia
The El Poncho Ecovillage in Bolivia
The Sarvodaya Movement for Peace
IPEC, Brazil
Crystal Waters, Australia
EcoYoff, Senegal
Kuthumba, South Africa

Be a WOOF'er (Willing Worker on Organic Farms)!

From the WWOOF website: "WWOOF organisations compile a list of organic Host farms that (from time to time) welcome volunteer help. When you join a WWOOF organisation, you will be put in contact with these Host farms. It is then up to you to contact the Host farms that interest you and make your own arrangements with them."
