We would like to present to you two collaboratively produced brochures: Biogas Digester and Compost Toilets. They include construction plans and practical details derived from experience. Many thanks to the collaborators – including Valerio Marazzi (Arcò, Italy), T.H.Culhane (Solar Cities).
Every eco-village or educational initiative that offers solutions based on cooperation with nature – with the greater whole, is working towards a wished-for and needed system change. Tamera Peace Research Center in Southern Portugal founded the worldwide educational platform, Global Campus to bring together a coherent community of peace initiatives, which now includes San José de Apartadó in Colombia, OTEPIC in Kenya, Poesia Samba Soul in the Favelas of Sao Paulo in Brazil and others. The shared committment is to the building of models for a peaceful culture based on community, and to passing on their solutions into the world. The events of the Global Campus pass on community knowledge and peace knowledge, together with low-tech solutions to everyday needs. We have seen how important it is to pass on the knowledge of these solutions, especially when people have a chance to live with such systems.
Some developments can already be plucked out and made available to others. Two first low-tech construction manuals have taken shape. The first shows a compost toilet design that we have refined over some years of trial and error, giving construction details and plans so that others can avoid the mistakes we made along the way (currently available in English, Portuguese and Spanish.) A second manual (currently in English and Portuguese) shows a biogas digester design which we built under the guidance of T.H. Culhane, who builds similar digesters worldwide. This model of sharing knowledge and experience is one we wish to continue in cooperation. If you would like to help to translate to other languages please get in touch with solarvillage(at)tamera.org.
May this help to empower people on their way to creating a future worth living!
