The Global Ecovillage Network (GEN) is a growing network of sustainable communities and initiatives that bridge different cultures, countries, and continents. GEN serves as umbrella organization for ecovillages, transition town initiatives, intentional communities, and ecologically-minded individuals worldwide.

People and communities meet and share their ideas, exchange technologies, develop cultural and educational exchanges, directories and newsletters, and are dedicated to restoring the land and living a cooperative sustainable lifestyle.

Women, Orphans and Vulnerable Children, War affected communities, Internally Displaced children rural families and the Youth in Southern Sudan face enormous challenges related to occupation, conflict, deep rural poverty, food insecurity and lack of extracurricular activities. The need to maintain traditional agricultural practices grows as the consequences of Occupation and conflict threaten farming livelihoods. As the just ended 22 year civil war deny Southern Sudanese the right to access agricultural areas and trade restrictions limit the achievements of the agriculture sector.

Gaia Education offers state-of-the-art study guides, training manuals, books, webinars, presentations and a quarterly newsletter to facilitate the delivery of on-line and on-site transformational learning opportunities for community development.

Since 2006, Gaia Education has successfully supported the delivery of more than 190 programmes in 34 countries over 6 continents, reaching thousands of people. Its programmes have been offered in settings ranging from tribal women and traditional communities to children and youth, ecovillages, urban slums, universities and resilience training centers.

Ecovillage Design Education

The Ecovillage Design Education (EDE) course is a programme of GEN  partner, Gaia Education.  This curriculum was developed over a number of years by a group of Ecovillage educators from around the world calling themselves GEESE (Global Ecovillage Educators for Sustainable Earth). Launched in Findhorn in 2005, the Ecovillage Design Curriculum is an official contribution to the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development - UNDESD 2005-2014.

Ndem is a community in the inner country of the ‘Bassin Arachidier’ of Senegal, the Peanut Growing basin of the Sahel region http://www.ndem.info/ . The area suffered rapid desertification and soil loss due to the climatic changes combined with the extensive monoculture of peanut that was once introduced by the French for export to its other territories. The rapid exodus reached its peak with the drought conditions in the 1980s that hit most of West Africa.

The TREES FOR LIFE PROGRAM is an initiative of Community Without Borders Association (COWIBORA) working in collaboration with key environment stakeholders. The Trees for Life Program is targeting to produce 50,000 tree seedlings per public school for planting in state and local authority forest reserves and water catchments towers. The aim is to restore forest cover in Kenya from the current 1.7% to the recommended 10% cover.

The project started when they were looking around and discovered that the mangrove were disappearing so they went to the elders to ask what caused that, and if was a natural or human cause. The answer they got was that it was mainly a human impact. The people were cutting the mangrove for fuel and building which also read the high salination of their land.

Efforts to create sustainable human settlements and ecovillages have been recognized by the government of Ghana. Initiated by a dynamic group of sustainability leaders, Ghana Ecovillage network was formed in 2012 and Incorporated in January 14, 2013 and given the permit to commence operations on 22nd January 2013.

GEN Ghana has evolved over the years since 2013.
GEN Ghana is a strong national network with active membership of about 120,
There has been 2 Ecovillage Design Education Courses (EDEs) organized at the Kumasi Institute of Tropical Agriculture (KITA) and the Ghana Permaculture Institute (GPI) with about 70 participants trained.
GEN Ghana has also hosted 3 National conferences and also hosted the 5th African Ecovillage Conference in December 2016.
There is an Active NEXTGEN Youth promoting ecovillage strategies and influencing policies at their district and national levels.
GEN Ghana is open for cooperation with other national networks, ecovillage projects, volunteers and interns who will like to partner. There is an active group. Thanks to GEN International and GEN Denmark (LOES) for their support in building GEN Ghana
